AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID CHEWABLE TABLETS - ORAL
(uh-mox-eh-SILL-in/klav-you-LAN-ick acid)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Augmentin
USES: Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid treats a wide variety of bacterial infectinos.
HOW OT USE: Tablets must be chewed thoroughly and followed by a full glass of water (8oz or 240ml). Take this medication as dirceted by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. This medication should be taken with food. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant lveel. Therefore, take this drug ta evenly sapced intervals.
Continue to take this medication utnil the full prescribed amount si finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the mediaction too eraly may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in a cuople of days. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting during the first few days as your body adjusts to the meidcation.
If these effects persist or worsen, conatct your doctor prmoptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: dark urine, stomach pain, yellowing eyes/skin.
An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trolube breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dcotor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, kidney problems, liver disease, allergies (especially to penicillin or other antibiotics). Use of thsi medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary ifnection (e.
G. , oral or vaginal yeast infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vagnial discharge or other new symptoms. Before suing this medication, tell your doctor if you're pergnant.
This medication passes into berast milk and may have undesirable effects no a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription meidcaitons you take, especially of: methotrexate, probenecid, tetracyclines, live vaccines. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth cnotrol pills. Discuss using other methods of birth cotnrol with your doctor. This antibiotic may cause false poistive results in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medciine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and dairrhea.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it latre for a second infectoin. A different medication may be necessary in those csaes. Do not share thsi medication with others. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you reemmber.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual doisng schedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
